Exhibition |

19 May 2023 – 25 June 2023

Four years after his untimely death, the work of sculptor and bronzesmtih Joseph Chetcuti will be showcased in a retrospective exhibition at MUZA, National Museum of Art in Valletta. Awarded a scholarship to study sculpture at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, where he spent the best part of four years, on his return to the Islands, Joseph started operating a small-scale foundry from his personal home, later obtaining a significant space at the Luqa Industrial Estate which would become the Foundry (Funderija Artistika Chetcuti) as it is known today.

Joseph participated in very few exhibition collectives, and only had his work showcased solo during Notte Bianca, a number of years back. He is better known and remembered for the monuments, portrait busts and commissions he worked on during his lifetime. More than a retrospective, this exhibition is an introduction to an artist who was seminal to transforming the landscape of public art commissions in Malta and Gozo.
