Tuitio Fidei, Latin for “Defence of the Faith” and the motto of the Knights, is an exhibitionwhich contemplates a way of life profoundly differentfrom our own, reflecting the manyfacets of the Order at the time. This exhibition, shaped by a contemporary response tosacred visual traditions, explores the history of the Knights of Malta, with a focus on theGreat Siege of 1565. The artist, Tonio Mallia, has always been captivated by Malta’s richhistory and was inspired during his last exhibition at MUŻA to imagine how the buildingmust have felt and looked like during the time of its origin. Playing with light and sound,Tonio Mallia aspires to create an atmosphere that reflects this dark yet heroic episode inMaltese history.
