‘Another World Beyond: The Art of Joseph L. Mallia’ is a retrospective spanning over 60 years of the Joseph Lawrence Mallia’s career. The exhibition moves from his early figurative studies and still lifes, to Maltese landscapes and cityscapes, and later to abstract works and self-portraits. Mallia’s early works show strong observation and composition, which laid the groundwork for his later style. His landscapes and cityscapes combine a sense of place with geometry, rhythm, and structure—bridging realism with the foundations of abstraction. In his later pieces, Mallia focused on process, form, and reflection. He explored colour, shape, and texture with precision, while his self-portraits turned inward, examining perception and identity. Overall, the exhibition reveals Mallia’s lifelong interest in structure, balance, and reflection, inviting viewers to look beyond the visible world into the patterns and questions that shaped his art. This exhibition is being coordinated in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History at the University Of Malta, with the support of APS Bank and KiteGroup.
